Dr. SHEN, CHIA THENG (1913-2007)<\/strong> was one of the founders of the Buddhist Association of the United States. Dr. Shen grew up in China, where his father dedicated himself to public welfare and his mother was a devout Buddhist. Following in his parents\u2019 footprints, Dr. Shen in his early years had been a successful entrepreneur and had contributed to public welfare. After immigrating to the United States, Dr. Shen ventured into the shipping industry, pioneering the Great Lakes route. He was listed multiple times in “Who’s Who in America.” Dr. Shen devoted himself to philanthropy, aiding refugees, students, scholars, and Buddhist temples, while also promoting interfaith dialogue. The organizations he helped to establish include the Buddhist Association of the US and the Institute of Advanced Studies in World Religions. In his
later years, he focused on studying the Diamond Sutra and authored works on its studies. Throughout his life, he practiced generosity, establishing a Chuang Yen World and leaving behind a serene sanctuary for generations to practice wisdom and merits for spiritual growth.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\u5c45\u548c\u5982\u5973\u58eb (1917-1988)<\/strong>\uff0c\u7956\u7c4d\u6d59\u6c5f\u6d77\u5b81\uff0c\u51fa\u751f\u540d\u9580\u4e4b\u95a8\u79c0\uff0c1940\u5e74\u8207\u6c88\u5bb6\u6968\u5c45\u58eb\u7d50\u8935\u3002\u80b2\u6709\u4e09\u5973\u4e00\u5b50\u3002\u6c88\u592b\u4eba\u5f85\u4eba\u8b19\u548c\u539a\u91cd\uff0c\u5fc3\u7d30\u8a00\u5be1\u3002\u5c0d\u7269\u7528\u5ea6\u6709\u7bc0\uff0c\u71b1\u5fc3\u8b77\u6301\u4f5b\u6559\u53ca\u6148\u5584\u4e8b\u696d\u30021964\u5e74\uff0c\u6c88\u5c45\u58eb\u5206\u4eab\u8d08\u8207\u592b\u4eba\u4e00\u5927\u7b46\u5de5\u4f5c\u734e\u91d1\uff0c\u6c88\u592b\u4eba\u5c07\u4e4b\u5168\u6578\u7528\u4e8e\u8cfc\u7f6e\u7ebd\u7ea6\u5e02\u5e03\u6717\u5340\u7684\u4e00\u8655\u8fa6\u516c\u6a13\uff0c\u6350\u8d08\u7f8e\u4f5b\u6703\uff0c\u6210\u7acb\u4e86\u73fe\u4eca\u7684\u300c\u5927\u89ba\u5bfa\u300d\u3002\u6c88\u592b\u4eba\u4e5f\u8207\u6c88\u5c45\u58eb\u5171\u8a31\u4e92\u76f8\u6210\u5c31\u3001\u798f\u6167\u96d9\u4fee\u30021988 \u5e74\uff0c\u6c88\u592b\u4eba\u5f80\u751f\u5f8c\uff0c\u6350\u7f8e\u91d1 40 \u842c\u5143\uff0c\u907a\u9858\u5728\u838a\u56b4\u4e16\u754c\u5167\u5efa\u4e00\u5ea7\u5716\u66f8\u9928\u3002\u7f8e\u570b\u4f5b\u6559\u6703\u53ca\u4e16\u754c\u5b97\u6559\u7814\u7a76\u9662\u70ba\u7d00\u5ff5\u592b\u4eba\u591a\u5e74\u4f86\u7684\u8af8\u591a\u8ca2\u737b\uff0c\u5c07\u5716\u66f8\u9928\u547d\u540d\u70ba\u300c\u548c\u5982\u7d00\u5ff5\u5716\u66f8\u9928\u300d\u3002\u6c88\u592b\u4eba\u65e5\u980c\u53d7\u6301\u300a\u91d1\u525b\u7d93\u300b\u5341\u516b\u5e74\u76f4\u5230\u5f80\u751f\uff0c\u5f9e\u672a\u9593\u65b7\u3002\u300a\u5167\u5b78\u8981\u9ede\u300b\u70ba\u592b\u4eba\u559c\u6b61\u7684\u5b78\u4f5b\u5178\u7c4d\u4e4b\u4e00\u3002\u7f8e\u570b\u4f5b\u6559\u6703\u7b2c\u4e09\u4efb\u6703\u9577\u4ec1\u4fca\u9577\u8001\u4ee5\u300c\u7121\u56e0\u4e4b\u52d5\uff0c\u7121\u9858\u4e4b\u4fee\u300d\u516b\u500b\u5b57\uff0c\u8b9a\u6b4e\u6c88\u592b\u4eba\u4e00\u751f\u884c\u8abc\u3002<\/p>

Mrs. CHU, WOO-JU (1917-1988)<\/strong>, born into an esteemed family, entered into matrimony with Dr. C.T. Shen in 1940, and together they raised three daughters and one son. Mrs. Shen, revered for her humility and benevolence, radiated a profound warmth and unwavering dedication to
both charitable causes and the teachings of the Buddha. In 1964, Mrs. Shen generously donated a building in New York City to the Buddhist Association of the United States, what is now the “Temple of Enlightenment.” United by their commitment to fostering virtue and wisdom, Mr. and Mrs. Shen pledged mutual support in their spiritual journey. Following her peaceful passage in 1988, Mrs. Shen left behind a legacy of compassion, manifesting in a bequest of $400,000 designated for the establishment of a library within the Chuang Yen World, now known as the “Woo Ju Memorial Library.” Mrs. Shen recited the Diamond Sutra daily, a practice she faithfully upheld for eighteen years. Ven. Ren Jun eloquently extolled Mrs. Shen’s lifelong virtues with the timeless adage, “Motion without cause, cultivation without desire,” encapsulating the essence of her noble and selfless endeavors.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
