The Anguttara Nikaya arranges discourses of the Buddha according to a numerical pattern, grouping together suttas that revolve around the same number of items, from “The Ones” to “The Elevens.” This first series on the Anguttara examines the entire chapter on the Ones—a short chapter that nevertheless covers many important themes in the Buddha’s teaching. The class starts at 9:00 am with a 50-minute silent meditation. This is followed by a discussion of the suttas from 10:00 am to 11:20 am. The approach in this class is more informal and conversational than in the previous class on the Majjhima Nikaya. Since the suttas in the Ones are very short, only the dates are given, not the names or topics of the suttas.
